A Made Up Mind

There’s power in a made up mind. Yesterday I spoke with a young lady who was the only one in her immediate family living for the Lord. We got to share our testimonies with one another and I was reminded of my situation growing up. During pre-service prayer yesterday evening I began thanking the Lord for all of the saints who have made up their minds that no matter what, they will serve the Lord.

I thought of some of the young people who are the only ones in their homes living for the Lord. I thought about the single parents who work hard to provide for their children and have passed this great Truth down to them. I thought about the wife who attends church by herself, but has faith that one day her husband will be back by her side in the house of the Lord. I thought about the widow who faithfully serves the Lord despite all that she has endured. I thought about the parents who serve the Lord and faithfully pray for their prodigal sons and daughters to be back soon.

I could go on and on as there are so many faithful saints of God. But I thanked the Lord for them because they have made up their minds that no matter the circumstances, they are going to serve the Lord. It’s a beautiful and a powerful thing to have a made up mind. Many of us know Joshua 24:15,

"And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served 
that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord."

We know that Joshua had determined in his mind that he was going to serve the Lord. He had a made up mind. And we read later in scripture that Joshua succeeded Moses in leading the Israelites and was the one who led them into the Promised Land. If Joshua had chosen to follow the crowd and had not determined in his heart to follow after the Lord, he would not have been used so mightily by God. There is power in a made up mind. The Bible also says in James 1:8,

"A double minded man is unstable in all his ways."

I love how the Amplified version says it in James 1:7-8,

" For such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord, 
being a double-minded man, unstable and restless in all his ways [in everything he thinks, feels, or decides]."

Wow!! “Such a person ought not to think or expect that he will receive anything [at all] from the Lord.” That is deep! This shows us that just as much as there is power in a made up mind, there are also consequences of being a double minded and unstable person.

But I am thankful for those saints who have made up their minds about serving God. Each and every one of them is a testimony of how we are overcomers through the Lord. We may experience tragedy and suffering, as the Word said we will, but it’s a beautiful thing when the saints of God grow through these situations instead of succumbing to them. I just wanted to encourage everyone to continue fighting the good fight. To my church family, every one of you is a blessing in my life and your walks with the Lord are truly a strength to me. And to anyone who may have strayed away, there is still hope. There is still time to get a made up mind. God is faithful and oh so good!
