On Wednesday night, Bro. Alcantar preached at our church about, “The Spirit of a Soul Winner.” His message was a beautiful reminder of what each of us is called to be. During Bro. Alcantar’s preaching, he quoted multiple scriptures from Acts about the boldness and courage of the apostles in the early church. And it reminded me of the thought that the Lord put on my heart last year during Covid. Last year, while stuck at home, a few of my friends and I did a Bible study on the book of Acts (the Bible study can be found on the ‘Apostolic Resources’ page). As we read through Chapter 13 of Acts we came to verse 46,
"Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles."
After every chapter, we would talk about the verses that stuck that out to us the most and share some commentary on each of those. I pointed out verse 46 and I explained to them that I had felt God put this thought on my heart while reading the chapter prior to that day. And I had written in my Bible, “Are you going to wax bold or wax cold?” I was referencing Acts 13:46 and Matthew 24:12.
Matthew 24:12 states,
"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold."
It has been shown that the human body’s temperature is lowest when asleep. Our body temperature will decrease during the night to help conserve energy and direct that energy elsewhere in the body. But I thought about how this is the same for us spiritually. When we are spiritually asleep or constantly pressing the spiritual snooze button, our spiritual temperatures will decrease and we will begin to wax cold.
The apostles did not let this happen because they understood the importance of the hour they were living. The apostles waxed bold for this Truth, and they reached the world around them. They boldly and unashamedly proclaimed this Gospel and to do that they had to be full of the Holy Ghost. They would not have been nearly as effective if they had not been full of the Holy Ghost. God used them and placed them in certain situations and locations, for a purpose. And they would have missed opportunities to save the lost if they had waxed cold. Brother Alcantar mentioned this and it is the same for us, that we will miss opportunities to reach someone if we are not full of the Holy Ghost.
Are we going to wax bold during these last days or wax cold? Some of us may be waxing cold at the moment, we may be lukewarm. But it is not God’s will or plan that we stay there. The devil may tell us that we are a lost cause, that it is too late, that we should just give up. But I just want to remind everyone that God has not come back for His church yet. There is hope, and He is waiting with open arms for all those who may have waxed cold. Let is not be said that we waxed cold, but that we waxed bold for this Truth. I don’t want to wax cold and miss all that God has for my city and I. It is time that we wake from our rest and wax bold for God.
Will we be a part of the generation that is waxing cold, or will we wake up and wax bold? Will we wax bold for this Truth? Will we boldly, and unashamedly proclaim it? Or will we choose to succumb to this world and wax cold?
Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful day. God bless you, in Jesus name 😀
