My Cup Runneth Over

"Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over."

In prayer recently I was reading this verse and I repeated the last portion of Psalm 23:5, “my cup runneth over.” And I was telling the Lord how I wanted my cup to run over with His goodness, His peace, His joy, etc. And I mentioned how sometimes in life, our cups will be running over, but not with the things God intended. Sometimes we allow our cups to run over with the stresses of this life, with fear, with burdens that are too heavy for us to carry. Today let it be said that our cups are running over with God’s love, goodness, and peace.

I love what Isaiah 61:3 says,

"To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified."

God can remove the ashes and give us beauty instead. He can give us the oil of joy for mourning. He can replace the spirit of heaviness for a garment of praise. If we have filled our cups with ashes, mourning, and the spirit of heaviness, God has given us the remedy. Our cups can run over with His joy and peace. So today, what are our cups running over with?

God bless and I hope everyone has a wonderful day. We are getting some much needed rain today 🙂

  1. Amen, our life should always leave a puddle as a evidence that someone’s cup was runny over. Thank you for reminding us to let love, kindness, meekness, etc run over from our hearts unto others. What kind of puddle are we leaving behind?
